Connected vehicles and vehicle to everything, V2X, technology are poised to radically transform the transportation industry. Cirrus by Panasonic is a cloud-based data aggregation and insights IoT platform processing 200M transactions per day and bringing together the digital and physical worlds to make transportation safer and more efficient. Cirrus empowers traffic operators and fleet managers with real time actionable information about vehicles, roadways, and infrastructure to positively impact the safety and mobility of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. 

 Edge Engineering Manager:

The Edge Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team in the research and development of advanced transportation technology solutions in vehicle and on the Right of Way. This role collaborates closely with leaders in cloud engineering, data analytics, quantitative research, and product to recommend and deliver results against strategic business objectives by driving the “what, when, and how” of edge technology engineering at Cirrus. 

 

    What You'll Get to Do:   

1. Research 

Research Connected Vehicle and related technology, standards, and market trends to determine how these can be applied to safety and mobility applications for Cirrus customers and make recommendations for product development to senior leadership. 

Participate in industry standards development through technical reviews, testing, and proposing new concepts to advance Cirrus customer use cases. 

Engage in industry standards development events, online and in person. 

Own and continually improve research processes to maximize efficiency of the edge engineering function. 

2. Development 

Lead development of Connected Vehicle solutions, including embedded engineering, system configuration, integration, testing, and installation procedures to support field deployment and operational monitoring of technology. 

Own relationships with external technology suppliers to expand portfolio of solutions available to Cirrus customers. 

Own development processes, resources, and tools and automations to maximize efficiency of the edge engineering function. 

3. Management 

Manage a team of engineers, including hosting regular 1 on 1s with each member as well as team meetings. 

In partnership with your manager, set the technical direction for the team and track and report on progress. 

Constantly triage and prioritize work requested of you and your team. 

Provide specific, actionable feedback to promote personal and professional growth of your team, including technical review and approval of team output. 

Develop a strong sense of autonomy and ownership amongst those on your team. 

Own hiring processes for your team by collaborating with your manager, recruiters, other team members, and key stakeholders. 

4. Stakeholder Support 

Provide technical support to internal stakeholders responsible for field installation of technology solutions. 

Provide technical expertise for debugging of technology deployed by Cirrus to Panasonic customers. 

 

What You'll Bring:    

Scope:

This position will report to the Head of Technology.  

 

Education and Experience:

BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical program preferred. 

At least 7 years of experience in related domain engineering or software embedded development. 

5 years experience in connected vehicle and or ITS hardware systems research and development. 

Experience contributing to the development of Connected Vehicle Standards, SAE, IEEE, CAMP, etc. 

1 to 3 years experience in engineering team leadership and engineering resource allocation. 

Proven track record of implementing efficient processes for research and development. 

Agile, waterfall, and or hybrid systems engineering experience required, certifications preferred. 

Experience working in the automotive industry preferred. 

 

Competencies:

Experience in development of engineering documentation. 

Experience working with and integrating Connected Vehicle, V2X, radio technology preferred. 

Experience working with and integrating equipment with vehicle CAN or SAE J1939 data buses. 

Experience working with Global Navigation Satellite Systems. 

Experience building custom technical management tools, processes, and workflows, JIRA and Confluence preferred. 

Experience in remote management of technical teams. 

 

Communication:

Able to communicate with your team to establish clear vision for execution of business objectives. 

Communicate with business stakeholders to optimize rapid prototyping activities. 

Report to Technology team leader on R&D progress. 

Coordinate with other business teams to enable cross team collaboration. 

 

Other Requirements:

Work requires long hours standing and walking. 

Working in and on vehicles may be required. 

Up to 15 percent travel required, US domestic.

The salary range of 165K-180K is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. Actual compensation varies depending on the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.
