The Position:

Specialist in certification, qualification, and installation of In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems by managing certification related issues with various other departments. Specialist in reviewing/preparing technical documentation and coordinating/conducting various types of testing.

Technical

  • Generate Flammability Test Plans and Qualification Plan, and establishing Qualification Basis for various OEMs (Airframe manufacture) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
  • Interface and discuss with FAA, EASA, and OEMs to obtain approval by providing convincing argument on Flammability Test Plans/Procedure, Qualification Plan, and establishing Qualification Basis.
  • Work with various engineering groups – Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electro-Magnetic Interference to help evaluate selection of new materials for Line Replacement Units (LRU) and Commodities that are compliant with FAA, EASA, and OEM flammability, smoke and toxicity requirement, and qualification plan
  • In-depth knowledge of product development and schedule impact from inception to production
  • Ensure all related documentation [drawings, test plans, Enterprise Change Requests (ECRs), Enterprise Change Order (ECOs), and Notice of Change (NOCs)] are technically accurate and consistent before release.
  • Involved with industry group, such as SAE international, RTCA, Material’s working group, and within company on standardization and process improvement.
  • Moderate design reviews to ensure thermal and structural suggestions were implemented properly within analyst's group.

Testing

  • Responsible for the successful completion of qualification and flammability tests in a timely manner.
  • Ensure technical correctness, accuracy, documentation and release qualification reports as well as substantiation documentation.
  • Ensure and instruct pre-qualification (engineering tests) to identify failures before product development and provide technical solutions to problems.
  • Lead requirements change and design changes as needed with test engineer/technicians to define test setup and perform flammability test, smoke/leak/cooling tests, and other tests as necessary.

Project Management

  • Coordinate the selection and ordering of parts, materials and vendor relations with Procurement, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Obsolescence, Product Planning, Product managers and Material Planning departments.
  • Review and assess LRU/Commodity schedules and assign resources with Project Managers, Team Leaders, and Engineering Managers.
  • Ensure correctness on technical approach & qualification plan
  • Re-evaluate certification process/procedures and best practices and implement “lessons learned” for the department
  • Interface with airline seat vendors to understand installations configurations, foresee issues and develop solutions to system installation thermal or structural challenges.
  • Initiate and implement analysis process improvements (e.g. analysis techniques, data storage and archiving)

The salary or hourly wage range of $107,000 – $180,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives

What We’re Looking For:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or equivalent degree. Masters preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in certification process.
  • 10 years in aerospace field, In-Flight Entertainment related field preferred.
  • Ability to travel to Japan and other domestic and international locations approximately 10-15% of the time or more as required.
  • Ability to perform pre-qualification (engineering tests) to identify failures during product development and provide technical solutions to problems.
  • Multi-task between developing projects and sustaining projects.
  • Understand detailed mechanical drawings and exploded views.
  • Must thoroughly understand, Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier certification and Airworthiness requirements pertaining to Flammability, Smoke and Toxicity, Structural Test Plan, Qualification Plan, and establishing Qualification Basis.
  • In-Depth knowledge of DO-160 and FAR 25, specifically for compliance to 14 CFR 25.1309, 25.1353, 25.853, 25.855 & 25.859
  • In-Depth knowledge 14 CFR 25.561, 25.601, 25.603, 25.605, 25.607, 25.609, 25.611, 25.613, 25.621, 25.625, & 25.789
  • Understand aircraft seat certification for 14 CFR 25.561, 14 CFR 25.562, and 14 CFR 25.785
  • Analyze problems using conventional (analysis) and computerized techniques.
  • Expert in developing and implementing analysis and test methods/procedures.
  • Ability to integrate information from more than one discipline (ME, EE, EMI, Product Planning & Manufacturing Engineering) to achieve results or successfully complete difficult and challenging assignments within a specialized field.
  • Capable interact with managers, directors, and VP.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement.
  • Understand industry best practices.
  • Specialist with a full understanding of company policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with impacting factors and relationships between product components on system level (HWE, Mechanical; structural / stress / thermal / EE / PWB)
  • Exemplary technical writing ability to prepare reports and documentation for submission to internal customers.
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact within the team and outside the team.
  • Resolve a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.
  • Work on problems of diverse to complex scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of variable factors.
  • Solid understanding of the operation of Impact tester, static tests, & leak/smoke test.
  • Good understanding of the business interest of the company.
