Honoring Kōnosuke Matsushita’s Vision with Start Anew Everyday Exhibition
2 minutesIn 1918, Kōnosuke Matsushita founded Panasonic with the desire to create meaningful technology that would move the world forward. Inspired by a passion for business management from a young age, Kōnosuke developed a purpose-driven Basic Business Philosophy that would set the foundation and serve as an unwavering guidepost for the ways the Company would make societal impact through innovation for generations to come.
"Our mission as industrialists is to overcome poverty and bring wealth to society. Only for this purpose will companies be allowed to prosper" Matsushita shared with his employees at the Central Electric Club in Osaka, Japan on May 5, 1932, during what is now recognized as the Meichi, or revelation of our corporate mission.
In the spirit of Kōnosuke Matsushita’s vision, the Panasonic Group’s Office of Corporate History keeps the principles and philosophies of Kōnosuke Matsushita alive by developing annual exhibitions where employees can learn about the ways the founder approached opportunities and challenges big and small. This year’s exhibition, Start Anew Every Day, Exhibition is a mixed media experience that has traveled across the globe.
Matsushita believed every day was a new opportunity to try new things, famously stating Start anew every day. "Each day is new, all things are ceaselessly moving and changing. We should ask ourselves if we are repeating the same way of doing things.”
To commence the opening of the Start Anew Every Day Exhibition, Panasonic North America gathered to be immersed in an innovation-inspired journey to learn how our wise founder’s management philosophies continue to shape Panasonic today.
Panasonic Corporation of North America (PNA) Chairwoman and CEO, Megan Lee helped shared her open ceremony, sharing her passion for the Basic Business Philosophy and the ways it has helped guide her career and approach to leadership.
"The open-mindedness and transparent management is what we practice today and they come from our Basic Business Philosophy," shared Lee during the exhibition. "I'm really proud to be apart of the Panasonic family with this very strong business philosophy."
Chief Officer of Corporate History, Junichi Mizuno also joined to share why honoring and applying the wisdom of Konosuke Matsushita is not only important, but an obligation.
The two then joined for an official ribbon-cutting and invited employees to partake in the exhibition.
"This special exhibition will provide an opportunity for you to learn from the founder's ideas and why is it important for our organization and each individual employee to put into practice to do work that is second to none," explained Mr. Mizuno. "What we at the Corporate History Office would like to share to you, is not just what the founder said but, how Konosuke Matsushita thought and acted."
