JOB SUMMARYUnder the direct supervision of apprentice mentors and qualified technicians the apprentice will be trained in all aspects of Line Maintenance activities at UK Line Stations. They will also gain experience in all Panasonic departments in the UK where applicable. The purpose of this training is to successfully gain the qualification of an aircraft Line Maintenance Engineer category “A”. This position will entail full time attendance at an appropriate training school, and you will be embedded into the Panasonic Line operation as well as other maintenance repair organisations (MRO) for experience exposure. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESTraining & Education
  • Practical application, observing, learning and understating a wide range of technical skills and processes relating to aircraft maintenance. Developing highly skilled, complex and specialist knowledge in maintaining aircraft systems according to Standard Operating Procedures:
    • Actively learn and be assessed throughout the program to ensure full understanding of aircraft maintenance and technical competence.
    • Participate in activities which cultivate a strong awareness for the quality, safety and delivery of service to the customer.
    • Under supervision, learn to carry out approved processes to maintain and certify the airworthiness of the aircraft, including troubleshooting, the rectification of defects, modifications and scheduled maintenance activities.
    • Be exposed and assigned to various line station locations and environments within PAC and with PAC airline partners throughout duration of training.
  • Initial Training – Year 1 (100% - Training & Education)
    • You will attend a 10-month training course at Apprenticeship Training Center to undertake learning to an “A” license standard.
    • During the year, you will study and practice application of the following subjects within aviation: Maths, physics, electrical fundaments, digital techniques/electronic instrument systems, materials & hardware, maintenance practices, basic aerodynamics, human factors, aviation legislation, airplane aerodynamics/structures and systems, gas turbines, piston engines and propellers.
    • You will complete all the necessary modules to allow you to hold an “A” license at the end of your training. You will be given up to two opportunities to pass your module exam after which the cost will need to be covered by the apprentice.
    • During your first year you will also work at Heathrow Line Maintenance for short periods to obtain additional training/familiarization as term times allow.
  • Work Experience Training – Year 2 & 3 (50% Training and 50% Practical Experience)
    • Following on from year one, you will continue with a work placement at a maintenance/repair facility for up to two years where you will gain practical experience and undertake work on aircraft under the direct guidance of a mentor where you will be exposed to naturally occurring maintenance events. Some of the key areas will include:
    • Complying with statutory regulations and organizational safety requirements
    • Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
    • Working efficiently and effectively in advanced manufacturing and engineering
    • Reinstating the work area on completion of activities
    • Carrying Out Flight Servicing and Routine Maintenance of Aircraft
    • Maintaining communication systems on aircraft
    • Maintaining electrical power systems on aircraft
    • Maintaining equipment and furnishings on aircraft
    • Maintaining navigation systems on aircraft
    • Maintaining cabin systems on aircraft
    • Maintaining cargo and accessory compartments on aircraft
    • Maintaining doors on aircraft
    • Maintaining radar systems on aircraft
    • During this period, you will complete a personal development logbook as a record of tasks completed that will be sent to the regulator as part of your assessment on suitability to hold an A license.
    • You will also work in different areas of the PAC operation to develop your knowledge of the departments you will need to interact with during your working career at PTS, such as Customer Support Field Engineering (CSFE) team, Finance, HR, Supply Chain.
    • During your training you will need to understand the requirements for airport security, Health and Safety and Human Factors to ensure you and those around you remain safe at all times.
    • The appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and uniform will be provided in line with college and workplace requirements.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS             
  • You need to hold, or be predicted to obtain, the following grades before the apprenticeship:
  • Five GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent which must include Science, English & Maths.
  • Important qualification information
    • You are ineligible for the apprenticeship if you hold, or are due to achieve, any of the following
      • A C&G level 3 qualification in Aircraft Maintenance.
      • An HNC/HND or degree in Engineering.
      • Any EASA Part 66 A or B license modules.
      • Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations if achieved with aeronautical pathway/units.
