Summary:

The EHS Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of EHS programs and guidelines in support of PENA’s battery production.  The EHS Supervisor plays a key role in day-to-day production operations. The EHS Supervisor leads a team of EHS Technicians and Leads and guides their day-to-day tasks.  The Supervisor will work directly with production mangers, supervisors, safety champions, consultants and vendors to maintain compliance, mitigate risk and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout PENA.  

Essential Duties:

  • Promote a culture of safety, quality compliance, and continuous improvement throughout PENA
  • Oversee and coach a team of EHS Technicians and Leads.  Provide guidance in support of their daily tasks
  • Develop, lead, and facilitate EHS initiatives and programs including training, emergency response procedures, incident reporting and investigation, compliance auditing, plant wide equipment/machinery safety assessments and more.
  • Review, participate, and coach teams in effective investigations.
  • Ensure appropriate root cause analysis has been conducted and corrective actions have been identified and implemented.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures that ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and conformance with the company’s management system.
  • Write and review EHS reports with little supervision or guidance.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and take steps to address or mitigate issues.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments. Evaluate equipment design and suggest modifications and safety improvements.
  • Collect and analyze data using commercial or in-house platforms. 
  • Communicate information to verify compliance and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Conduct and maintain environmental and industrial hygiene monitoring program to ensure testing, reporting, and monitoring of waste streams.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside vendors for various services provided for safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and report progress of safety team progress, area safety audits, incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Working alone or with cross-discipline team members, complete projects to both improve processes in existing production lines and install/commission new production capacity.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports and permitting requirements as needed.
  • Interact and support with personnel at all organizational levels, both internal and external to the company.  Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to add value to the organization.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by EHS leaders.

Qualifications: Required and Preferred:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in EHS
  • 2+ years of manufacturing/operations experience in a high pace/high volume manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and guidelines, including OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, and EPA
  • Self-starter, with general instructions.  Strong attention to detail.
  • Work effectively and efficiently in a cross-discipline environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in an extremely fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver production deadlines and goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to give formal presentations to small groups and communicate successfully with all levels of employees and management.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma and 6S principles.
  • Comfortable communicating/troubleshooting with all levels of the organization.
  • Skills in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to respond to site emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed.
  • Basic/Required:  High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred:  Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Systems Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or related science or technical field from an accredited four-year college or university, or 2- or 4-year degree in safety/regulatory compliance management or comparable college degree with relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5+ years EHS experience
  • Alignment to Panasonic’s seven (7) core principles (contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, gratitude)

Preferred Certification(s):

  • ASP, CSP or CIH

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a must and includes equipment such as safety shoes, clean suit, dust mask or respirator, gloves, safety glasses/safety goggles, hair net etc.  In some instances, a full Tyvek Suite is required for some areas.
