TeraDiode (TDI) is a Massachusetts based Panasonic subsidiary and a world leader in developing high-power, high-brightness diode laser systems. Our kW-class direct diode laser technology is a disruptive force in the materials processing industry, which is currently dominated by Fiber and CO2 lasers. Our patented wavelength beam combining technology was developed by our co-founders from MIT Lincoln Laboratory for defense, industrial, and commercial materials processing applications.

What you will get to do:

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for multiple facets of the Safety Program. Maintain compliance with all laws, regulations, good practice and company guidelines. Interest in working in a dynamic, fast-paced R&D environment with cutting edge laser technology.  This role is not remote, it is based in Wilmington, MA.

  • Proactively reviews policies, procedures, products, testing, experiments, and activities to determine potential for any safety related issues and eliminate or reduce the chance of injury or illness. Conducts/monitors quarterly safety audits and recommends improvements to the management safety committee
  • Creates and conducts interactive hands-on training programs to supplement training provided through online learning management system, develop and manage on-line training curriculum via LMS, maintain training records
  • Maintains and updates SDS program, reviews and approves chemical use at facility and keeps accurate chemical inventories. Arranges for the proper disposal of all chemical waste. Ensures compliance with all EPA guidance and enforces the use of the GHS labelling system for hazardous substances
  • Assists with creating and maintain corporate governance regarding all aspects of safety, develops written safety programs compliant with all local, State and Federal regulations
  • Conducts comprehensive safety incident investigations and determines root cause for problems and makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
  • Support Facilities management as needed
  • Support Planning department operations as needed

What You’ll Bring:

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in an Engineering discipline - Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Engineering Technology, etc.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and related safety requirements/hazards preferred
  • 2 years of related safety experience preferred
  • Prior experience in biomedical, semiconductor, chemical or waste industries preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) a plus
  • Ability to work in a clean room wearing required protective gear
  • Interest in working in a dynamic, fast-paced R&D environment with cutting edge laser technology


  • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies, make fast decisions regarding life and safety, problem solve efficiently
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, legal requirements, local and company policies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others to understand the importance of safety
  • Able to hold people, departments, institutions accountable to standards
  • Able to properly articulate standards to all parties and stakeholders
  • Able to be CPR and First Aid trained, and a first responder to any incidents


  • Must be able to present ideas, status updates, analysis, solutions to all stakeholders
  • Must be able to transfer knowledge accurately and collaborate with other functional teams
  • Must be able to build and develop key relationships to influence when needed
  • Must be able to interact with managers and other staff, become a trusted source of information

Other Requirements:

  • Will be required to wear PPE, safety gear and work in a Cleanroom environment
  • Must be able to use small hand tools, and be mobile throughout the various labs
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach
  • Must be able to see lab/test results on test equipment
  • Must be able to use a computer and other manual and computerized equipment
