Slide Away Summer

Summertime – a season when the days move fast, the birds sing a soundtrack to your morning and fireflies dance as memories take root. For Troy Ramiscal, a senior at Rochester Institute of Technology, this summer held something more – it was a time of discovery and growth during his graphic design internship with Panasonic Industrial Devices Sales Company of North America (PIDSA). Ramiscal reflects on the experience that turned one season into something unforgettable.

Stepping into Creativity

One of the most memorable parts of Troy’s internship wasn’t just a single moment – it was the chance to contribute creatively across a wide range of projects. “I was excited to bring new ideas to the content strategy within my team. To see my visions come to life in a business environment has been fulfilling,” he shares.

Pride in the Process

As a design student, collaborating with product engineers and marketing teams was a new experience, and one Ramiscal fully embraced. Being part of a cross-functional team gave Ramiscal a new perspective and deepened his sense of ownership in the work he produced. “I feel proud of the advertisements I’ve made. It’s a whole different field than what I study. I admire my co-workers and feel grateful for how much I’ve learned from them,” he says.

Embracing Growth Through Feedback

No creative journey is complete without a few growing pains and for Ramiscal, one of the most impactful parts of the experience was learning to welcome feedback. “Sometimes I can get stuck in my head about a vision or way of thinking. Receiving feedback can be hard to internalize, but it’s helped me grow in my skills as a designer,” he states. By stepping outside his comfort zone, Ramiscal learned to see critique as a tool, not a setback – one that sharpened both his eye for design and his ability to collaborate.

Learning to Balance It All

One of the most unexpected lessons Ramiscal took away from his internship wasn’t about design, it was about balance. Navigating creative deliverables, meetings and collaborative work helped him strengthen his time management and communication skills. “Adapting to both solo and team-based tasks stretched my abilities. It’s helped me grow new muscles in both collaboration and prioritization,” he shares.

Mentorship Making a Mark

Behind every strong internship is someone who sees your potential – and for Ramiscal, that person was his manager, Caryn Kleinman. “She has been an unparalleled resource during my time at PIDSA,” he states. “Her feedback and our weekly discussions have helped me understand myself better as I start out my career.”

Looking Ahead

As Ramiscal reflects on a summer of discovery, his advice to future interns is simple but powerful. Don’t take things for granted. “Even the moments that feel challenging or confusing are helping you build something. Every project at PIDSA has taught me that there’s a skill or takeaway to be found,” he shares. Sometimes the best part is looking back and realizing how far you’ve come.
