People-Focused, Purpose-Driven: Cultivating a Culture of Goal Setting

For some, a new year is accompanied by new goals. At Panasonic, goal setting is not merely an annual exercise but a continuous journey. Driving a culture of goal setting reflects our commitment to empowering our employees and cultivating organizational success. We caught up with Anastasia Bartolucci, Director of Talent, to discuss this topic and how it’s not just about setting objectives, but creating a culture where clarity, communication and alignment enable individuals and teams to thrive.

Goal setting at Panasonic is guided by our Panasonic Leadership Principles, which emphasize visionary thinking, ownership, and a people-focused approach. According to Ana, the company’s goal-setting culture is valuable because it not only focuses on what needs to be achieved but empowers employees to think creatively on how to achieve it.

“The ‘how’ is demonstrated through our behaviors and leadership principles,” shared Ana. “Talent development and goal setting aren’t just HR initiatives, they’re essential to our success as a people-first organization for over 100 years.”

Focusing on talent development is central to Panasonic’s mission to build a talent powerhouse. Employees are encouraged to take charge of their careers, supported by managers who are equipped to guide and inspire them. In a dynamic and rapidly evolving world, adaptability remains the key to effective goal setting. “Goals can’t be set once a year and forgotten. They need to evolve as priorities shift, which is why I believe goal setting is an ongoing conversation,” Ana added. Regular discussions between employees and managers help maintain focus and encourage adaptability while reinforcing a sense of purpose and connection.

Goal setting is more than a one-and-done exercise. It’s about fostering growth while building strong relationships. “Ongoing check-ins and open dialogue build a culture rooted in trust, transparency, authenticity and mutual respect, creating stronger connections between employees and their managers. This is how we cultivate a thriving, people before product culture,” shared Ana. "When organizations focus on clear, outcome-oriented goals and behaviors and empower employees to take risks and collaborate, innovation becomes a natural byproduct.”

By breaking down silos and promoting cross-functional collaboration, our goal-setting culture aims to unify employees with a shared purpose. It is through this shared purpose that employees can not only understand where they’re headed but also how they fit into the bigger picture. With an emphasis on collective clarity and employee development, we aim to unlock both organizational and team potential, driving sustainable success.
