From the origin behind Panasonic’s name to the sheer scale of our manufacturing footprint, employees are continuously learning new things about Panasonic’s history and the bold ideas, unexpected chapters and people-first decisions that continue to shape how we operate today.
Here are a few of the “wait, that’s actually really cool” moments employees often share.
A Name with a Meaning
Panasonic isn’t just a name created out of nowhere. The Panasonic brand name was first used in 1955 on a speaker designed for the export market and comes from the root words “pan” (universal) and “sonic” (sound). It reflected an early goal of “bringing our sound to customers around the world.”
Building Big Ideas
Panasonic Energy’s Kansas facility sits on a site of approximately 300 acres, about the size of more than 225 American football fields. It is described as one of the largest automotive battery manufacturing plants in North America.
A People-first Move, Decades Ahead of Its Time
Long before work life balance, Panasonic’s founder was already acting on it. Founder Konosuke Matsushita was an early advocate for a two-day weekend, and in 1965, Panasonic introduced a five-day workweek at a time when a six-day workweek was the norm in Japan.
Racing to the Finish Line
Panasonic’s spirit of performance and precision has shown in unexpected places including Formula One. Panasonic served as the title sponsor of Toyota’s Formula One program in 2007, with the team officially competing under the name Panasonic Toyota Racing.
All together, these moments help explain why so many employees feel a strong sense of pride working at Panasonic. From decisions that redefine work culture to innovations that reshape entire industries, employees come to understand not just what Panasonic does, but the purpose behind it. For many, that discovery is what turns a role into a long-term career.
