Career journeys are rarely linear. For many people, the path they start on is not the one they ultimately follow. Shifting interests, unexpected opportunities and new passions often lead us to places we never imagined. Today’s workforce is filled with individuals just like Veronica Caetano, Sr. Manager, IT Planning & Engagement, who have made bold leaps from one field to another.
“I’ve worn a lot of different hats throughout my career, from medical assistant to dental assistant to various administrative and secretarial roles,” says Caetano. “I actually joined Panasonic as a part-time executive assistant and that’s where my long-term career in supporting and connecting teams really began to take shape.”
Her degree in Psychology gave her a strong foundation in understanding people and honed her communication skills, which became invaluable as she transitioned into IT Planning & Engagement and eventually leadership.
What Sparked the Pivot?
“I realized that while I enjoyed being in supportive roles, what really motivated me was understanding how teams work together and how to make organizations run more efficiently and collaboratively,” Caetano explains. “Over time, I wanted to have a bigger impact, not just by helping one leader but helping an entire department function better.”
That desire to create structure and strengthen collaboration led her to IT Planning & Engagement, where she could combine organizational skills, a people focused mindset and strategic thinking.
Panasonic’s Role in Her Growth
“Panasonic has been amazing about encouraging growth and exploration,” Caetano says. “I’ve had opportunities to take on new challenges, like leading the Security Operations Center (SOC) team, which pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me develop as a leader. This is something I would have never imagined early in my career! The company truly believes in giving people room to stretch, learn and evolve.”
Advice and Lessons Learned
“I used to think I thrived most with structure, but I’ve realized I do my best work in spaces where I can create structure, improve processes and strengthen collaboration. Growth happens when you’re willing to step into the unknown and trust yourself to figure it out. Change doesn’t scare me anymore; it motivates me,” Caetano shares.
