Fostering Community and Connection:
The Power of Business Impact Groups
at Panasonic

At Panasonic North America, diversity and inclusivity are foundational to creating a thriving work environment.

Business Impact Groups (BIGs) have become vital in promoting these values, providing employees with platforms to connect, share experiences, and support one another. Monika Gonzalez and Tiffany Velez, two passionate BIG leaders, share their inspiration behind organizing the first-ever BIG Impact Mixer held at our Newark Headquarters.

Having worked with the Panasonic BIGs for almost three years, Monika identified a growing need for collaboration and engagement across the BIGs – BEN (BLAAC Employee Network), Level Up, PRISM, RISE and PNA Veterans. This realization sparked the idea for the BIG Impact Mixer, an event designed to bring together members from all the BIGs along with employees interested in learning more. "The purpose of the event was to bring the communities together to network and socialize, allowing attendees to form new connections they wouldn't have otherwise," Monika shares.

Why are BIGs so crucial at Panasonic? According to Tiffany, "BIGs are essential for fostering inclusivity and ensuring diverse employee needs are met. They promote a supportive work environment." She also explains that the groups offer a space where employees can express their unique identities and feel valued for who they are, which is vital for creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.

Monika encourages others to learn more about, and consider joining, any one or more of our diverse roster of BIGs at Panasonic and reflects on the impact they’ve had on her. "By taking an active role in a BIG, specifically BEN, I've felt a sincere sense of belonging at Panasonic," she says. Being part of a BIG has allowed Monika to form genuine connections, participate in exciting events, and, most importantly, create lasting friendships. As a Latina in a corporate environment, she finds comfort in being part of a community that shares similar cultural experiences. "Becoming part of a community has significantly impacted my experience at Panasonic, which is why I encourage other colleagues to join a BIG and find their own community."

Reflecting on her journey, Tiffany shares how joining BEN within the first few months at Panasonic was a transformative experience. For her, it provided a platform to connect with colleagues who share similar cultural backgrounds, fostering a strong sense of community and belonging. "This sense of inclusion has significantly contributed to my positive experience at work," she notes, highlighting the important role BIGs can play in enhancing employee well-being.

"I hope to see the BIGs continue to grow in size and impact!" Monika expressed. The enthusiasm and engagement witnessed at the BIG Impact Mixer give both Monika and Tiffany hope that these communities will continue flourishing and making a difference at Panasonic.
