Performs all job duties and responsibilities associated with operating and maintaining the waste-water treatment machines and equipment, and insuring that all released water is within regulations and specifications. Also, responsibilities include, dry air, but not limited to: HVAC, cooling tower, Energy Management System, air handling units, variable air vents, boilers, chillers, pumps, air compressors, and the vacuum, water, and climate-control systems. Also will assist Building Maintenance Personnel as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows all company and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains active communication with management and other employees about all job-related concerns, and informs the Supervisor when problems occur.
- Sets-up the machinery for operation:
1) Starts-up the machinery for warm-up period.
2) Takes preliminary readings of all meters, gauges, etc., and tests the water flow-rates.
3) Checks the control panel for correct operation.
- Monitors and maintains the operation of the machinery;
1) Observes the equipment, watching and listening for possible causes or signs of malfunctions, errors, and other problems.
2) Monitors the control panel for machinery malfunctions.
3) Troubleshoots problems when malfunctions occur.
4) Makes all repairs and adjustments (cleans, dislodges clogged matter in the pipes and pumps, resets the controls, etc.)
- Makes continuing checks on the system according to control sheets and operating specifications:
1) Checks all filters, and cleans or replaces as needed.
2) Checks the flow-rates, and makes the needed adjustments.
4) Takes Ph readings of samples to determine if the water meets specifications.
5) Fills in the control charts as checks are finished.
- Waste Water Treatment:
1) Checks the purifying chemical tanks; drains, cleans, prepares the chemicals for, and refills the tanks as necessary.
2) Disposes the solid waste matter from the filtering process in the proper containers, and caps-off the filled containers.
3) Checks the sensors and calibrations on the Ph meters and other equipment, and makes the necessary adjustments.
4) Insures that the bottles in the Composite Sampler are in place and correctly set.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years technical training and three years related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization and vendors.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic knowledge of EMS work instructions and Hazardous Waste
Management procedures relevant to positions for which assigned. Training may include, but not limited to, on-the-job training, department reviews and internal/external training. Must have knowledge within operating parameters specified by permits and EMS Work Instructions.
