Leading & Inspiring: The Importance of Mentorship at Panasonic
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to kick off the new year, goal setting is always on the list. National Mentoring Month is a great place to start! Mentoring is a great way for you to strengthen your leadership and coaching skills, as well as an opportunity to help others by sharing your own personal and professional experiences.
Whether it’s finding opportunities to expand upon a skill or receiving feedback to help you improve, mentorship can help you take the next step in your professional career. It’s important to find someone who inspires and motivates you, someone who can empathize and offer guidance, or act as a sounding board for new ideas.
At Panasonic we strive to constantly improve and no matter how talented we are as individuals, cooperation and team spirit helps drive us forward in our mission to create a better world.
To support this mission, we’ve partnered with Braven, a company focused on empowering underrepresented young people with the skills, confidence, and networks necessary to transition from college to strong first jobs.
Below, members of the Panasonic team share their experience working with Braven and how mentorship has positively impacted their careers.
Dan Silver, Vice President, Panasonic Life Solutions N.A. (PLSCA), 36 years with Panasonic
Mentorship as a professional gives me a chance to help people maximize their potential and see their own strengths. During my time with my mentees, I have helped them develop the ability to tell their stories and edit their stories to what is important.
Recognition of their unique skills within the competitive nature of this world is sometimes all that’s needed to show them that they are supported.
Gustavo Sepulveda, Process Automation Business Head, Panasonic Systems Solutions of North America, 2 years with Panasonic
Being able to mentor first-generation college students that are trying to land their first professional job has been such an exciting opportunity. Most of the mentees I have worked with have overcome personal challenges and to see them eagerly working towards their goals is admirable.
Throughout this process, I’ve been reminded not to take the opportunities I’ve had for granted. Seeing these young people dedicate their time and hard work to better themselves for their families reminds me of why this is so important.
Maggie Saphore, Sr. Onboarding Specialist, Panasonic Energy of North America (PENA), 4 years with Panasonic
Mentorship is an amazing gift! In order to receive this gift all, you need is a growth mindset, gratitude, and the willingness to pass this gift along to others!
Chris Schade, Panasonic Systems Solutions of North America- PA, Aftermarket Support Manager, 1 year with Panasonic
As a mentor, I’ve learned that I don’t always follow the guidance I give my mentees...which is a shame because it’s frequently good advice! Seriously, I’ve learned that my experience has value. I’ve become more confident sharing my instincts for the benefit of others and trusting them for the benefit of myself.
