Job Summary:

The Senior Facilities Engineering & Construction Manager is responsible for managing and controlling project ramp up and in sustaining our operational and maintenance activities. You will own management of assigned groups adding your leadership support to all facets of facilities, thus ensuring facilities goals are continually met.  You will also work closely with internal and external key stakeholders regarding technical support for activities and strive for best-in-class products and business practices. By providing clear leadership and vision, you should inspire, motivate, and mentor staff to achieve excellence, and to develop new skills, which is an integral aspect of growing our PENA team. Must be able to drive Key Performance Indicators across assigned Facilities areas and ensure all projects are delivered with the highest quality standards, while maintaining budgetary guidelines and strict deadlines.

Essential Duties:

  • Ability to effectively lead multi-functional teams in the design, estimating, scheduling, and construction of expansion projects
  • Collaborate with PENA Legal Team and Property Management Teams for the purpose of implementing and maintaining service and service programs
  • Develops and manages the facility management design and construction budgets and approves all invoices associated with the contract
  • Assist with the transition of properties into the portfolio from development or acquisition
  • Capital improvement projects
  • Drive strategy and direction for Facilities department consistent with organizational guidelines and vision
  • Drive and support special projects and strategic initiatives for the portfolio
  • Manage functional Facilities Engineering & Construction teams to meet Facilities KPI’s.
  • Empower, develop, and reward individuals and teams for performance and growth
  • Ensure that company resources are utilized to sustain safe manufacturing and distribution excellence
  • Manage ongoing improvements in facilities efficiency, implementing Lean principles, and demonstrated proficiency in implementation.
  • Coordinate and interact with internal cross-functional teams to fulfill Customer and Company goals.
  • Drive strategy and direction for site Facilities Engineering & Construction consistent with organizational guidelines and vision
  • Support the creating and delivery of engineering & construction objectives, facilities services, programs and contracts in the portfolio
  • Provide strategic direction to others who oversee Facilities Engineering & Construction
  • Accountable for annual budget development and operations analysis for Facilities Engineering & Construction
  • Assures capital projects, operations projects and reconfigurations are managed with outstanding customer service
  • Further develops standards and procedures as business and customer needs evolve
  • Partner with procurement on opportunities to RFP and/or negotiated service contracts
  • Drive and support special projects and strategic initiatives for the portfolio
  • Work with corporate legal counsel to manage contracts and day to day operations where applicable
  • Establishes trust and maintains open, positive relationships with team and customers • Conducts regular, formal site condition inspections and develops solutions for systemic needs
  • Collaborate with PENA leadership to ensure consistency, lessons learned, and best practices across the Gigafactory
  • Other duties as assigned

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a requirement for some roles at PENA and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

  • Basic/Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Management, or a related field from a four-year College or University
  • Preferred:  None

Essential Qualifications:

  • Desired 10+ years of experience in an engineering or construction management role, including managing teams
  • Demonstrated experience as a leader with 3+ supervisor responsibilities
  • Experience building and supervising a team or department within a multicultural startup environment
  • Exceptional communication skills: ability to lead cross-functional teams through influence, advice, and modeled behavior versus micromanagement; excellent interpersonal skills; calm under pressure, able to de-escalate and effectively manage escalations at all levels of the company
  • A track record of championing speed, flexibility, and frugality in the face of rapid change and extremely heavy workload
  • Solid understanding of sourcing/procurement, building systems and maintenance, engineering & construction management, and customer service
  • Comfortable with legal terms and structures for standard commercial contracts
  • Strong ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems
  • Self-starter who sets aggressive goals and consistently gets results
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and successfully execute tactics
  • Effective resource management and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge in using SAP and ARIBA is preferred.
  • Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data
  • Lean, 6 Sigma, 5S experience, and continuous process improvement experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering or construction management
  • Experience utilizing a scheduling software
  • Alignment to Panasonic’s seven (7) core principles (contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, gratitude)

Preferred Certification(s):

  • Certified Facility Manager
