YOUR MISSION:
Directs and coordinates activities of the software engineering department to design, manufacture, and test electronic components, products, and systems either personally or through subordinates.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
- As an Engineering Manager, this role will require approximately 70% technical development and 30% resource management
- The technical responsibilities of the job are to develop, modify and maintain software for automotive applications using software engineering best practices & standards and participate in the full life cycle of software development to include C/C++ coding to engineering defined coding standards, unit testing, software integration testing, software requirements, design documentation and support for program reviews.
- The candidate shall be responsible for the BSP, Speech, HMI, Build and Release domains under advanced engineering for their day-to-day work assignments and deliverables
- The candidate will work closely with Responsible Software, System, & Test Engineers along with Development Test Labs to ensure a quality product is being developed. Duties also include design influence to increase product reliability and test coverage. Make recommendations for design, process improvements, and data collection.
- Management duties will require tasking and coordination of approximately 5-10 Software Engineers
- The manager is responsible for assessing staffing needs, current as well as projected and working with the respective Project Managers to address those needs.
- He/she will also be responsible for supporting recruitment activities including the creation of requisitions, conducting interviews, and approving offers.
- He/she will work with Engineering Management to establish program and functional goals as well as performing performance evaluations and merit adjustments for each subordinate.
- Responsibilities include supervision which includes career development recommendations, mentoring and performance evaluations.
- Acquire the necessary computers, equipment and tools to enable their subordinates to perform their work.
- Generate training plans for subordinates based on the program and company needs.
- The manager is expected to provide their group with regular flow down of company and organizational status and appropriately represent and be a spokesperson for the Software Engineering organization to their group, assigned project, and the company.
MUST-HAVES:
- Four-year college degree in Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related degree required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of full lifecycle embedded software development experience in a relevant product design.
- Minimum five (5) years leading a team of software engineers with a formal development process such as Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, or Extreme Programming.
- Additional desirable experience includes familiarity with Configuration Management, CMMI or Automotive Spice, Agile, Extreme Programming and FMEA.
- Must have demonstrated leadership ability.
- Must have technical background experience with at least two of the following: SOC (Systems on Chip), OS/BSP (Board Support Package), HMI tool sets (Kanzi, Unity, Android Studio, Qt etc.,), Android/Linux/QNX, Open Source or Application development.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Windows-based databases as appropriate to the position and assignment.
- Must have a strong technical background in software development, including C/C++, software requirements and software design experience. Specific experience in actual design of software for automotive components is highly desirable.
