Quality Assurance Manager

Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance Manager will manage and build the quality systems and team by establishing procedures and KPI’s for our Li-ion battery manufacturing processes.


Essential Duties:

  • Lead the quality strategy, goals, and objectives for PENA Quality Assurance operations and business development.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in quality to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Champion total quality excellence and quality first behaviors, transparency, and collaboration to internal and external stakeholders. Add vendor relations, more specifics for QA
  • Define and specify the implementation of standards, methods, metrics, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision, accuracy, and reliability of our product and equipment.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Supplier Quality Assurance team.
  • Assure compliance and continuous improvements to all quality management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the Environmental, Health and Safety and other business teams to create an integrated management system.
  • Develop a high performing team and future leaders by coaching and improving individual capability through performance management systems and processes.
  • Establish and monitor the team’s performance through KPIs aligned to the organization’s strategic objectives, and at the same time ensuring to company policies.
  • Facilitate direct report education and training.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a possibility and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field) from a four-year college or university.
  • Experience including quality control of batteries or within electronic devices, in high volume manufacturing.
  • 5+ years Management experience is required.
  • Customer quality interface, failure reports (leveraging RAC methodologies).
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and functional team building.
  • Strong and thorough knowledge of quality engineering disciplines, including: quality data collection, Pareto & data analysis / trending.
  • Extensive experience utilizing quality management tools including:
    • Statistical decision-making methods including process capability analysis, MSA/GRR and DoE.
    • Continuous improvement and structure problem solving such as 8-D, fishbone, FTA, FMEA, and other quality tools.
  • Champion the use of SPC techniques across the organization.
  • Knowledge of 6 Sigma methods and techniques, process control systems, process capability, measurements and analysis, FMEA, preventive action, and continuous improvement programs required.
  • Advanced skills with all MS Office Products, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management system auditing.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience with laboratory analysis instruments including X-Ray, SEM, ICP, etc.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management system auditing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
