Principal Engineer I is responsible and accountable for the design integrity of the Micro Distributed Systems (MDS) display cases, including Freedom Line air-cooled and water-cooled and microDS. This includes, but is not limited to, case performance, development, testing, and compliance to regulations and market needs. The Principal will ensure the engineering resources have the proper skill sets and direction to deliver the products within scope and timeline.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the continuous improvement of his or her product lines, including design quality, performance improvement, and flexibility to meet market needs.
  • Capture Engineering knowledge within his or her product lines to ensure critical learnings are catalogued and shared across product lines.
  • Match new technologies to market needs and opportunities resulting in substantial business growth.
  • Support Director of Principal Engineering, Chief Engineer, other Principals, Technology Team, Product Managers, and other functional groups as needed.
  • Financial: Support revenue and profitability by supporting the optimization of his or her product Portfolio Solutions development.
  • Product Development: Ultimately responsible for the delivery of the Freedom Line air-cooled and water-cooled, and microDS Case lines’ product value proposition, including costs, meeting scope, and regulatory compliance. Where needed, support other product line and the Technology Team.
  • Prioritize the capture of technical knowledge within his or her product lines and sharing of this information with other product lines to improve Hussmann’s speed to market.
  • Proactively scan the global refrigeration industry for emerging trends and technologies relevant to his or her product lines. 
  • Communicate relevant market intelligence into Hussmann’s marketing and PL teams.
  • Stay up to date on the latest regulatory developments on safety standards (e.g., UL), refrigerants (e.g., EPA), and energy efficiency (e.g., DOE) to understand how his or her product lines must adapt to meet new requirements.
  • Quality and Reliability: Reinforce the “Culture of Quality” with internal and external engineering resources to maximize customer uptime and productivity.
  • Compliance: Responsible for coordinating and communicating regulatory and compliance within his or her product lines and with our Regulatory Affairs team.

Requirements:
  • BS in Engineering or technical discipline required. Preferable MS in technical discipline.
  • 15 years required for technical (Principal or Technologist) discipline if employee doesn't have MS degree.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of overall directly related experience including new product development.
  • 5 + years of commercial refrigeration experience required.
  • Proven track record of managing engineering efforts.
  • This position requires a culturally intelligent individual with no direct reports who has a strong ability to influence.
  • Analytical and commercially pragmatic approach is a must
  • This position requires a strong technical acumen along with international collaboration skill set.
  • Travel up to 25%
