The Position:

  • Leads sustaining, design and development including layout, analysis, evaluation, prototype build, and testing of mechanical, electronic and electromechanical components and systems for assigned Team(s). Directly participates with members of management in the design and development of products and analysis of customer requirements. Assists in the determination of a problem solution while giving consideration to form, fit, function, weight, productability, manufacturing, product marketing and cost. Provides technical and logistical guidance for related projects.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES.Description

  • TEAM LEAD
    • Provides Technical Engineering review of projects such as reviewing Project Specifications (PRM, PPS, PRD), Project schedules and milestones.
    • Ensures that milestones for specific key engineering projects are being achieved.
    • Coordinates project activities with Software, Hardware, Mechanical, Component, product planning, Quality Assurance, Project management, Dev Test, PSE, System Test and Manufacturing Departments.
    • Leads the coordination efforts and activities between Manufacturing, Obsolescence, Product Planning and Material Planning departments for the selection and ordering of parts, materials, components, or processes with vendors and suppliers.
    • Chairs weekly Team meetings to facilitate identification and resolution of action items.
    • Mentoring engineering personnel on how to utilize high end analyzing equipment.
    • Provides guidance to staff to promote understanding of engineering processes and documentation.
    • Responsible for reviewing REA engineering reports and technical editing of other engineering reports.
    • Utilizes lessons learned for developing proactive engineering solutions.
    • Defines test setup and criteria for testing Hardware.
    • Assigns job responsibilities to core Responsible Engineering Authority that have higher level technical expertise in a specific area of design.
    • Allocates project resources during absences to insure sufficient resource coverage.
    • Reviews DVP (Design Verification Process) and design release package.
    • Reviews PWB layout and assembly packages.
    • Reviews SOW inaccuracies and liabilities in relation to the overall design of the project based on cost, weight and design constraints.
  • TECHNICAL REVIEW
    • Recommends effective technical solutions to eliminate impacts in other areas such as Airline customers, Mechanical, Software and Manufacturing.
    • Ensures that investigations for DCR, CMM, MIR, DCN, AII, MDDCR, CONs, and Synergy are on target and focused towards a cost effective solution to field issues.
    • Provides support to facilitate weekly CRB, MIR, Safety P1/P2, Vendor, TDR and Synergy meetings.
    • Supports EMI/ENV/HALT/4-Safety Tests as mandated by Panasonic HW design requirements.
  • DOCUMENTATION REVIEW
    • Ensures DCR, DCN, TDR, MDCCR, HEIR, NOC, TECH, CON's, Handover, MIR, CMM and VE engineering documentation is technically accurate and consistent.
    • Reviews Schematics and hardware checklist for conformance with Design Requirements.
    • Ensures that all parts are ordered correctly, using Statement of Work (SOW) and working closely with Procurement and Material Planning.

The salary or hourly wage range of $90,000- 151,000 USD is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements. 


What We’re Looking For:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Electrical Engineering required followed by an MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 3 years' experience in IFE Industry required.
  • 5-8 years' experience in areas such as higher mathematics, electronics, mechanics and circuit design.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Principles of engineering normally attained through a BSEE, MSEE or PhD degree.
  • Highly proficient in designing and developing requirements from specifications, oral instructions, or preliminary sketches.
  • Advanced ability to design, analyze circuits and equipment using conventional and computerized techniques.
  • Advanced ability to develop and implement test methods and procedures.
  • Advanced skill level in preparing technical reports and documentation for submission to management.
  • Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Electronic Engineering field.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to assigned project teams and perform as a technical expert and a source of information. Provides technical consulting to peers or immediate manager.
  • Demonstrated experience providing identifiable contributions to the success of a specific product/project.
  • Develops solutions to clearly defined problems of moderate to diverse scope. Analysis involves selecting the best alternative method or process from among several existing alternatives or based on evaluation of identifiable criteria.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Uses professional concepts and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues, as a seasoned, experienced professional.
  • Integrates information from more than one discipline (Mechanical, Hardware, Software, Product Planning, Reliability and Manufacturing Engineering) to achieve results or successfully complete difficult and challenging assignments within a specialized field.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with senior internal and external personnel.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Makes significant decisions including implementations and program requirements.
  • Uses clearly demonstrable skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel to Japan and other domestic and international locations approximately 20% of the time.
