JOB SUMMARY

  • As part of the Technologies R&D group, responsible for research, design and development of mechanical and electromechanical components to be used in conjunction with IFE (In-Flight Entertainment) systems. This could include concept design of advanced antenna systems and its corresponding mechanisms based on internal and external requirements, to be used in aircraft applications.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES.Description

  • Perform design and development including mechanical layout, analysis, evaluation, prototype build, and testing of electromechanical (actuation) systems and antenna hardware.
    • Research, identify and develop concepts and ideas for electromechanical solutions and actuation pertaining to IFE equipment.
    • Mechanical design and development of antenna hardware. Ensure that selection of hardware and material is in compliance with specifications and product requirements.
    • Oversee the determination of a problem solution while giving consideration to form, fit, function, thermal, structural rigidity, weight, EMI, ESD, DFM, DFT, product marketing and cost.
    • Create and evaluate conceptual designs, assess risks, and develop cost effective products that meet the program requirements for packaging systems in airborne-based environments.
    • Optimize antenna design by working hand in hand with the analysts and oversee the analysis of antenna designs for the determination of thermal/dynamic characteristics, and performance of materials, mechanisms, assemblies and systems.
    • Build product prototypes.
  • Product testing.
    • Responsible for relevant testing on the prototypes in a lab environment with the help of test engineer(s) to ensure the design meets all required aerospace standards.
  • Support engineering analysts in conducting thermal/mechanical shock/vibration/EMI/ESD analysis.
    • Provide the necessary input to the analysts in terms of file formats, test data for them to perform the best analysis possible


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent followed by an MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace
  • Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years experience in electromechanical systems development for aircraft or commercial applications with a proven track record of designs that are currently in production.
  • Experience with structural analysis tools such as ANSYS Workbench a plus.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • In-depth knowledge of engineering fundamentals and principles to assess best design path for electromechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in large moveable structures/linkages driven by motors and guided by high precision feedback systems such as displacement sensors.
  • Expertise in determining and developing requirements from specifications, oral instructions, or preliminary sketches.
  • Expertise in running mechanism models using computer simulation tools.
  • Expert-level ability to design using Pro/E Wildfire MCAD Tool or solid modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor.
  • Practical knowledge of 1) a broad range of fabrication methods and/or processes like machining, extrusion etc.; 2) common metals, allows, polymers, adhesives, composite materials, ceramics; 3) methods for mechanical assembly & electronics packaging; and 4) Gear-train design.
  • Higher level knowledge of the entire aircraft-level system and integration of the antenna.
  • Experience in mechanisms, load path analysis, interface loading and stress analysis.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace standards and requirements for airborne equipment such as RTCA/DO-160F and OEM requirements such as Boeing D6 and Airbus ABD documents a plus.
  • Exemplary technical writing ability to prepare reports and documentation for submission to management and customers.
  • Performs as technical expert and a source of information.
  • Highly proficient in project planning to ensure timely completion of complex, independent tasks or one or more complex projects. Must know, plan for and integrate internal and external dependencies across multi-functions.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge in order to provide recommendations and make decisions in matters of significance to the product and company.
