At PENA, engineering interns quickly become experts in the fundamentals of lithium-ion cell technology and work to integrate that understanding with high speed, automated manufacturing methods to produce the highest performance and highest quality lithium-ion batteries.
- Conducts battery cell manufacturing process improvement for mass production lines
- Conducts design and testing work for existing production lines to improve cell manufacturing process on safety, quality and productivity
- Analyzes and evaluates machine and test data
- Analyzes operating procedures and functions of equipment and machinery to reduce time and cost of manufacturing processes
- Provides engineering support to production teams to resolve manufacturing process issues
- Works closely with other team members to increase understanding of failure modes and improve performance of cell manufacturing equipment
- Applies principles and knowledge of engineering to solve manufacturing problems
- Other duties may be assigned

- Completion of at least two years of full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours per semester) in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.

- Must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at an accredited four-year college or university
- Demonstrated experience solving difficult hands-on engineering problems with an ability to clearly articulate technical detail and thought process
- Familiarity with basic lithium-ion battery chemistry
- Good understanding of basic manufacturing principles
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to write and communicate technical information clearly and concisely
- Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Hands-on experience through project teams or previous jobs
- A desire to create a sustainable future through energy storage, renewable energy, and electric vehicles
- The program will be a fulltime paid summer internship working for Panasonic at the Gigafactory
- The program will be 12 weeks in length, and is planned to occur between Monday, May 23rd and Friday, August 11th. This date range is subject to change
- Must be able to attend the entirety of the internship
