The Field Telecom Technician will be responsible to support the remote communication needs of our customer in the energy, mining and maritime industries. This includes the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of equipment including fixed and stabilised VSAT and communication systems and networking devices.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install and troubleshoot all fixed, stabilised and Auto-Acquire VSAT systems in use in the industry.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning Build and Test tasks in a workshop environment as required.
  • Configure, install and troubleshoot remote customer equipment such as routers, switches, wireless access points, antenna control units, satellite modems, RF equipment, and solar power systems.
  • Install, connect, test and certify in-house telecommunication circuits in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work with clients, service providers, and other stakeholders to resolve completed network-related problems.
  • Interpret and understand engineering drawings for installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Product Development teams in the review and testing of new VSAT hardware and technology.
  • Complete all plans, diagrams and procedures related to installations including the as-built documentation as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Facilitate and conduct risk assessment, report incidents and hazards, participate in incident investigations and promotes and maintains a safe and positive HSE presence within the team and day-to-day workflow.
  • Hold associate degree in electronics, telecommunications, communications, or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years relevant work experience (within the onshore/ offshore remote communications industry is highly preferred)
  • Have proven and demonstrable experience with satellite communications fundamentals, VSAT, andtenna RD systems/ sub-systems to include SeaTel, Intellian, Orbit, AVL Auto-Acquire and fixed antenna systems
  • Competent in the use of Spectrum Analysers and Bit Error Rate testers.
  • Hold a current, valid manual driver's license and First Aid certificate
  • Proficient with current iDirect NMS software and equipment and other satellite modems, routers, switches and wireless access points.
  • Have knowledge of offshore safety procedures including but not limited to Permit to Work, Stop the Job, Lone Man Working and Electrical Isolation.
  • Be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressured environment.
  • Have exceptional customer service skills and be driven to exceed customer expectations.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and is able to work as part of global and regional teams across multiple geographic market verticals.
  • Be able to work after hours, including extended hours, weekends, holidays, late nights, early mornings, and be on call from time-to-time.
  • Have full working rights to work in Australia.
