Job Summary

Support the 24/7 operation of Panasonic Avionics IFEC (In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity) applications and services. The candidate will be part the Application Services team charged with ensuring a high level of service continuity and reliability across the Panasonic Avionics suite of services in addition to helping lead the transition to cloud-based computing. The candidate will be willing to learn new tools and technologies and be willing to lead, mentor, and train others as we continue to evolve In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity.

Major Responsibilities

Applications Engineer III

  • Lead key process improvement initiatives to support business continuity and reliability of system infrastructure both on-prem and in the cloud (AWS).
  • Lead discussions on application deployment guidelines and processes culminating in the successful execution of the deployment.
  • Lead the implementation of server upgrades, maintenance fixes and vendor-supplied patches.
  • Lead the implementation of application monitoring changes following best practices guidelines.
  • Lead and Mentor Level 1 and Level II Support Engineers. 

Customer Support

  • Provide highest level escalation response to trouble tickets in a timely fashion and in compliance with NOC/CPC standards.

Other Support

  • Authoring and maintaining applications services technical documentation in ordinance with Panasonic Avionics Corporation standards.
  • Develop, document, and communicate business requirements and procedures to IT staff and management.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency of UNIX operating systems administration including Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu & CentOS.
  • Proficient with a programming language with AWS SDK support such as Java, Python or C#.
  • Understanding of services such as Route 53, Cloudfront and VPC.
  • Understanding of basic storage fundamentals both on-prem and cloud based.
  • Knowledge of available AWS services as well as use cases for each.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency of virtualization best practices and fundamentals.
  • Intermediate to Advanced understanding of network and communications systems fundamentals.
  • Ability to coach and train others as a part of knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to execute on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Intermediate understanding of network and communications systems and network monitoring concepts.
  • Ability to execute on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining best results.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other technical positions. 

Education/Experience Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree with a Technical Major, such as Engineering or Computer Science; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • 5+ years relevant IT/Development experience.
  • Advanced to Immediate proficiency with mySQL or MariaDB / Certification a plus.
  • Virtualization Certification a plus.
  • Kubernetes / DevOps experience a plus.

Technical Documentation

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Some domestic (<10%) and international (<5%) travel may be required for the purpose of cross training, capacity management & meeting with off-site personnel/management.
  • May be required to undertake temporary work assignments in other states, counties or countries as operational requirements dictate.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Current passport in good standing.
