Job Summary

Support the 24/7 operation of Panasonic Avionics IFEC (In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity) applications and services. Part the Application Services team charged with ensuring a high level of service continuity and reliability across the Panasonic Avionics suite of services. Mentor and train others as we continue to evolve In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity.

Major Responsibilities

Applications Engineer

  • Participate and execute the managing of key process improvement initiatives to support business continuity and reliability of system infrastructure.
  • Participate in the discussion of application deployment guidelines and processes culminating in the successful execution of the deployment.
  • Participate in the implementation of server upgrades, maintenance fixes and vendor-supplied patches.
  • Recommend and implement application monitoring changes following best practices guidelines.
  • Provide on-call 24/7/365 support on production systems, services & infrastructure (in rotation with other staff)
  • Define, document, and schedule system backups and recovery processes to ensure full data restoration.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

  • Provide highest level escalation response to trouble tickets in a timely fashion and in compliance with NOC/CPC standards.
  • Respond to System Alarms / Escalations.

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

  • Assist with creating and maintaining technical documentation in ordiance with Panasonic Avionics Corporation standards. Provide technical IT documentation to support proposal development process.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Intermediate proficiency of UNIX operating systems administration including Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu & CentOS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency of virtualization best practices and fundamentals
  • Basic understanding of network and communications systems fundamentals.
  • Ability to execute on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Intermediate understanding of network and communications systems and network monitoring concepts.
  • Ability to execute on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willing to learn new tools and technologies.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • College diploma or university degree with a Technical Major, such as Engineering or Computer Science; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • 5+ years relevant IT/Development experience, including Network Operations Center and 24/7 call center experience.
  • 3GPP Standards and Wireless experience a plus.
  • Intermediate proficiency with mySQL or MariaDB a plus.
Other Requirements
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Some domestic (<10%) and international (<5%) travel may be required for the purpose of cross training, capacity management & meeting with off-site personnel/management.
  • May be required to undertake temporary work assignments in other states, counties or countries as operational requirements dictate.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Current passport in good standing.
