Serving Those Who Served: Professional Services Group Volunteers with Veterans Community Project

header size 8

How does a company truly make a difference beyond its products? At Panasonic, community engagement is one way we as an organization make a difference. That spirit of service was on full display when Panasonic Connect’s Managed Services Group (MSG) volunteered with the Kansas City-based Veterans Community Project (VCP), an initiative consistently chosen by employees through Panasonic's annual volunteer survey.

For Marquita North, Human Resources Business Partner, the VCP holds deep personal meaning. “This project is close to my heart because my husband served in the military, and I’ve seen firsthand the challenges veterans can face when transitioning back to civilian life,” she shared. “It means a lot to work for a company that not only supports Veterans but also encourages employees to give back in meaningful ways.”

A Day of Community and Connection

The volunteer day began with a moving video featuring testimonials from veterans whose lives were transformed by VCP. “It gave us a deeper understanding of the organization’s mission and impact,” North said. The team then toured the facility, including the 49 tiny homes that provide safe, fully furnished living spaces for veterans. “What’s especially touching is that when veterans are ready to move into independent housing, they’re able to take everything in their tiny home with them to help them start fresh,” North shared.

After the tour, the Panasonic Connect team got to work, unpacking and organizing donated food items, checking expiration dates, labeling boxes and stocking shelves. “It was hands-on work, but we could feel how every small task contributed to a larger purpose of supporting veterans in rebuilding their lives,” she reflected.

For North, the experience was deeply emotional. “During the video, I found myself tearing up as I listened to the veterans’ stories. It was incredibly moving to hear their honesty and resilience.” She left the event feeling proud and grateful, not just for the opportunity to serve, but for the company culture that made it possible.

She also gained new insights into the challenges veterans face. “Many shared how difficult it can be to adjust to civilian life after military service, and it was heartbreaking to hear how often they feel isolated or misunderstood. It reminded me how important compassion and awareness are when supporting those who’ve sacrificed so much for our country.”

Volunteer events like this one do more than support the community; they strengthen the bonds between colleagues. “Throughout the day, we worked side by side, shared emotional moments and supported one another,” North said. “Experiences like this build trust, empathy and teamwork in ways that go beyond the workplace.”

At Panasonic, we believe that meaningful work extends beyond the office. Volunteering with organizations like the Veterans Community Project gives employees the chance to connect with the causes they care about, build stronger teams and make a real difference.
