Empowering Today's Change Makers for Tomorrow's Future

At Panasonic, innovation isn’t just about technology, it’s about people, creating opportunities and building a future where STEM careers are widely accessible. Jessica McKenzie, Manager, Program Officer at the Panasonic Foundation, discusses her journey and her team's work in advancing critical STEM education and outreach.

A Building Block for Opportunity

Reflecting on her passion for STEM education, McKenzie shares, "I believe in the power of STEM outreach to help create opportunities for young people to explore, learn and grow. It equips them with skills that can have a meaningful impact both in their communities and around the world." Her work focuses on engaging the communities Panasonic serves, showcasing the company’s innovation while inspiring future generations to see Panasonic as a place to build a meaningful career.

Strategic Partnerships That Make a Difference

Panasonic’s commitment to STEM is reflected in its partnerships with leading organizations. One standout, is For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), a global nonprofit that prepares students ages 4–18 for the future through robotics-based programs.

“We’re proud to support FIRST programs in states like California, Kansas, New Jersey, Nevada and Texas,” McKenzie shares. “These programs give students hands-on experience and a sense of belonging in STEM fields like engineering, coding and technology.

Advice For Future STEM Leaders

When asked what advice she’d give to students or young professionals interested in STEM careers, McKenzie advises to, “Connect with professionals in the field through informational interviews.” She also points to the power of social media, suggesting that platforms like TikTok can be valuable tools and recommending they, “Explore videos where professionals share their STEM career journeys and the steps they took to succeed.” McKenzie reminds future innovators that the first step is simply believing in themselves, stating, “All it takes is getting started and then persisting in your efforts to learn and grow your skills.”
