Cybersecurity Starts with Us: Building a Human Firewall

Cybersecurity is a priority at Panasonic, and every employee plays a critical role in ensuring the security of personal and organizational data. It starts with our dedicated cybersecurity team which works tirelessly to protect company assets, empower employees with knowledge and build a culture of shared responsibility. Together, we turn vigilance into action and make security part of Panasonic’s everyday culture.

Day In the Life

A typical day for our cybersecurity team is dynamic and collaborative. From reviewing incident reports and conducting risk assessments to supporting audits and training employees ... no day is the same. “It’s a mix of strategic planning and hands-on problem solving with many cross-functional teams,” explains Richard White, Group Manager IT/Security.

“We provide regional governance and advisory in support of our business units. This includes risk assessments, supplier due diligence and contract guidance, all aimed at minimizing risk and strengthening resilience,” says White.

The Biggest Threats

When asked about the most significant cybersecurity threats to employees, Innocent Kabangu Joo Sung, IT Security Analyst, emphasizes, “Human threats like phishing, social engineering and insider risks pose the biggest challenges by increasing the attack surface and potentially leading to data breaches, ransomware or compliance issues.”

“We are intent on building a human firewall to reduce the risk of phishing attacks, credential theft and social engineering tactics,” White adds.

Staying One Step Ahead

The cybersecurity team works to limit risks by conducting regular phishing simulations, providing awareness training and monitoring threats. White notes that, "constant learning and collaboration help us anticipate and adapt to new cybersecurity challenges."

White emphasizes the importance of staying flexible and innovative in facing modern cyber risks. “Our goal is to be agile and leverage new technology (like AI) but to also build awareness and resilience across the organization so employees can recognize and respond to these threats quickly,” he explains. By combining advanced tools with ongoing education, Panasonic empowers employees to be proactive, strengthening overall security and ensuring a rapid response to emerging threats.

Kabangu Joo Sung sums it up best. “A secured environment isn’t IT’s job, but rather a shared responsibility involving everyone.”

At Panasonic, security is part of everything we do, and everyone helps protect our people, our information and our reputation, no matter what their job or department.

Whether you’re a cybersecurity expert or someone who values a safe workplace, Panasonic champions a culture of protection, innovation and support. By working together, we build an environment where employees feel empowered to take the steps needed to keep us secure.
